New First Responder Technology from Rex Systems to Include LifeShirt Technology for Real-Time Monitoring of Wearers' Vital Signs

October 19, 2005 - VivoMetrics Government Services and Rex Systems Inc. today announced a partnership to further develop Rex System's First Responder Communications Tracking System (FRCTS) by incorporating VivioMetrics' LifeShirt system that allows wearers to view and monitor their own vital signs.

FRCTS offers portable, non-infrastructure bound technology that can be worn by first responders to communicate with one another and a central command center. The companies are hopeful that increased communication of both real-time medical and positioning information will provide a major contribution to heightened safety for emergency personnel.Read more.

KVH Industries Tapped by Raytheon to Provide Gyro Unit for Navy MK54 Torpedo

September 14 - KVH Industries Inc. has received a production order from Raytheon Integrated Defense Systems for the company's fiber optic gyro (FOG)-based TG-6000 precision inertial measurement unit (IMU). The TG-6000 will serve as a key component within the guidance system of the U.S. Navy's next-generation MK54 lightweight torpedoes.

The order is valued at $3.2 million. Delivery will begin later in 2005 and continue through 2007. If three follow-on options are exercised, the total order is potentially valued at more than $15.8 million between 2005 and 2009, KVH said. Read more.

NEW PRODUCTS: Berkeley Nucleonics Adds Two New Instruments to Line of Personal Radiation Detectors

Berkeley Nucleonics Corporation yesterday announced the addition of two new instruments to its line of advanced personal radiation detectors, the NukeALERT II 1703M personal radiation detector (PRD) and the palmRAD 1621M Dosimeter. Designed for the nontechnical user, both are highly sensitive radiation monitors that can discreetly detect and measure gamma radiation and then alert the operator through a vibration or audible alarm. HURRICANE KATRINA: Defense Logistics Agency Gearing Up to Provide Needed Supplies

The Defense Logistics Agency today said it has increased support to provide commodities needed for Hurricane Katrina relief efforts and is working with partners to help deliver the much-needed supplies. Currently, there have been significant requests for subsistence, medical supplies and fuel to support relief efforts. A DLA working group has been formed to monitor and support current relief efforts. Read more.

HURRICANE KATRINA: Halliburton Subsidiary Helping Navy Repair Damages at Three Mississippi Facilities

September 2, 2005 - Halliburton's KBR subsidiary is providing power distribution restoration, emergency roof repair and debris removal at three Mississippi Naval facilities that were damaged by Hurricane Katrina. KBR will begin performing damage assessments on other Naval facilities in New Orleans as soon as it is deemed safe to do so.

The work is part of the company's Construction Capabilities (CONCAP) contract with the U.S. Naval Facilities Engineering Command. The U.S. Navy uses the CONCAP contract to support immediate needs associated with regional emergencies caused by natural disasters, military-led or military-supported humanitarian assistance or military conflicts.

Halliburton also reported that it has approximately 3,000 employees working in the affected region. "Unfortunately, many have suffered devastating losses with many homes and vehicles flooded and some with a total loss of all of their belongings," the company said in a statement.
